The heartwood and sapwood of the service tree are almost indistinguishable. The wood is reddish-white. Partly brownish in colour, consistently without a core, and essentially strongly reminiscent of pear tree. Growth rings and growth zones are clearly recognisable. The wood is beautifully flamed, fine but short-grained.
Service tree is particularly suitable as a veneer for model making, but it can also be used as panelling and panelling wood in high-quality interior fittings.
The light pink colour can be easily stained or dyed. The wood is very popular in the manufacture of musical instruments.
