Beech

Beech

The generally plain wood of the beech tree (European beech) is reddish-white to light gray. The sapwood and heartwood are usually not distinctly colored, with the exception of occasional dark discolorations known as "brown core" (false core), which may not actually be heartwood. The medullary rays are very wide and sharply defined, while the pores are very fine and hardly visible. Special colorations and grain patterns in beech wood are referred to as "multicolored beech."
